Herbert John FLATMAN, son of John Samuel FLATMAN (c. 1870-c. 1947) and Elizabeth Ann CORBLE (c. 1872-c. 1946), was born on 23 October 1899 in South Lopham, Norfolk. nHerbert was baptised on 21 July 1907 in South Lopham with some of his siblings. Herbert enlisted on 23 December 1917. He was called up on 25 May 1918 - posted to the 3rd Company of the 2nd Battalion Scots Regiment of Foot Guards, Guardsman 18247, and joined at Caterham the next day. (During his time he was deemed a 1st class shot and on leaving was said to be, "..... sober, clean, honest, and trustworthy and has done his work well with the Battalion."). He was transferred on 26 February 1919 to Class “Z” Army Reserve on demobilization. His home address given as Barker’s Farm, South Lopham. He married Hilda Sarah DAVEY circa 1932 - reg: Thetford Norfolk. He died on 10 March 1977 in Blo Norton, Norfolk - aged 77 years.
